Who we are
Ellern Mede Ridgeway Service for Eating Disorders was opened in May 2011 to provide offer a specialist intensive treatment service for children and young people with eating disorders.
Eating Disorders are extraordinarily complex illnesses which present with abnormalities in physical and psychological functioning. The physical complications have the potential to cause permanent damage and in some cases are life-threatening. The causes are complex and multi-factorial including genetic, neurodevelopmental and environmental factors. They require a comprehensive response including medical, psychiatric, psychological, social and educational interventions.
Our principle objective is to provide excellent standards of care in order to secure the best possible outcomes for our young people receiving treatment at our service. Our service participates in peer review via the Royal College of Psychiatrists Quality Network for Inpatient CAMHS (QNIC) and is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We also have an established active research programme and a comprehensive training programme.

Dr Hind Al Khairulla, Clinical Director & Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Hind established the Ellern Mede Ridgeway Service in 2011 and has more than 20 years experience in the field of psychiatry with particular interest in eating disorders. In 2002, Hind participated in setting up an eating disorder clinic for young people in Milton Keynes suffering from serious eating disorders. More recently she was the clinical lead for a 15 bedded tier 4 eating disorder unit specialising in the management and treatment of complex eating disorders associated with psychiatric and physical co-morbidities, where she expanded the unit to deal with the severe and enduring group of eating disorders (that are usually complex and associated with high levels of risk both from a physical and mental perspective). |

Natalija Lytrides MBA, Centre Manager Natalija has a background in Psychology and Management. Her specialism is in audit, compliance and quality improvement having previously worked as a Quality Consultant and Auditor. Natalija has spent the last 8 years in acute inpatient psychiatry, within Governance and Hospital Management functions. Natalija set up the Ellern Mede Ridgeway Service together with Dr Hind in 2011 and is the Registered Manager.

Nancy Maicoo RMN, Head of Nursing
Our Nursing team is led by Nancy who has spent over 10 years in inpatient and outpatient Eating Disorders and was previously Ward Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist of a highly specialised NHS service. Nancy is our Safeguarding lead nurse and our Accountable Officer. |
